Java Green Organic Eco Cafe strives to create a better world by encouraging a socially-responsible, conscious lifestyle.
Java Green is a green business, starting with using organic fruits, organic vegetables, organic breads, organic beans, organic rice, organic noodles, organic soy sauce (wheat free), organic sugar, organic cheese and organic flour. We also only use organic dairy, organic soy milk, and organic fruits in all our drinks, juices, smoothies, coffees and tea.
Java Green believes strongly in supporting small farmers and fair labor practices. Our Gnosis chocolates, selection of raw retail items, and several blends of our coffee are from fair trade certified sources. We also know this means supporting co-operatives and independent businesses here at home, in and around D.C. To that end, we get desserts from local organic vegan bakeries like Sweet & Natural and Seemconi.

Cafe Green is proud to be the first full-service organic vegan restaurant in the nation’s capital. Further, we aim to make vegan dining delicious, nutritious, and accessible, with a variety of price-points and something for everyone, whether you are seeking raw, gluten-free, soy-free, or nut-free cuisine, or just looking for some tasty guilt-free food. Our seasonal menus highlight the best of local produce, and our full bar features not only local brews, but also the best organic wine, beer, and spirits from around the world. From the low-VOC vegan paints that color the bright hues of our walls to the double-filtered de-fluoridated drinking water at every table, we care about our environment and your health.
Cafe Green seeks the best of local and organic produce whenever possible. At any give time our menu is about 90+% organic, with much of the produce coming from growers and distributors in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware and New Jersey, such as our friends at Radix, Lancaster Grower’s Co-operative, Lancaster Produce, Tuscarora Organic Grower’s Co-operative, and Albert’s Organics.
At Cafe Green we know that Fair Trade doesn’t just start with ensuring that imported products like our Gnosis Chocloate or Equal Exchange coffee are fair trade, it also means supporting folks like Equal Exchange and Frontier Herbs because they are co-operatives, as well as supporting the independent businesses here at home, in and around D.C. To that end, we get some desserts from local organic vegan bakeries like Sweet & Natural and Seemconi, our reusable napkins are washed separate from other restaurants in eco-friendly detergent by Andrew’s Linens, and our bulk grains and real grade B maple syrup come from Potomac Whole Foods in Big Pool, Maryland.
